Saturday, 29th December saw the first ever Newton St Cyres Tennis Club Christmas Fancy Dress Tournament! We ought to thank the David Lloyd mixed team who talked so enthusiastically about their fancy dress Christmas frolics one evening that our mixed A team just could not let it go by and decided to bring this kind of tennis jolly to our club.
The weather on the day was nigh perfect, the hut was festively decorated, everyone who said would turn up did so and brought with them yummy food to eat. Mary brought delicious mulled cider and Boss Fairy – I think that’s what Elaine, aka Bad-ass Fairy, called me, or was it Bossy Fairy… – made some lovely mulled wine.
Four teams – Elves, Fairies, Reindeer and Santas – took part in a medley of tennis events put together by Boss(y) Fairy. At the end of the afternoon the Reindeer herd, fronted by Harry and supported by Matt, Jacky and Andrew, were the winners with 106 points, closely followed by the Santa gang (Gerry, John, Chris W and Frederiek) with 104 points. The Elves (Sarah, Anita, Henry, Mary) finished third and our lovely Fairies (Jana, Elaine, Chris, Sally), who obviously made sure they finished last because they didn’t want the others feeling miserable (that’s fairies for you :)), occupied the fourth spot.
We also had a Best Costume competition with Chris B in his amazing fairy outfit coming out on top! Well done Chris!
Everyone seemed to have a great time and were even talking about doing it again next year! Looks like we may have started a new tradition 🙂
