Finals day is the annual highlight of the club calendar. This year, it took place on Sunday, 20th September and, for the first time in quite a while, we had three junior finals on the menu, as well as the usual adult courses.
Before I delve into the results, I would like to thank the people without whom yesterday wouldn’t have happened. First of all, James Temple, our new junior coach, who organised the junior finals and gave up his time to be at the club despite being the organiser of the county closed tournament in Exeter happening on the same day! Myself for organising the adult club tournament without which there would have been no finalists. Viv, who helped organise the junior finals, organised the BBQ and, together with her husband Neil, was at the club at 9am to put up bunting, set up the gazebo and tables and generally get everything ready. Sarah and myself for bringing the gazebo, tables and other bits and bobs and being there at 9am to set up with Viv and Neil. Sarah for her brilliant waitressing services, keeping everyone topped up with tea, coffee and cake. Mac for supplying the BBQ. Laura and her husband Peregrine for manning the BBQ and cooking delicious food. And everybody else who came to support the club and the finalists and did jobs on the day π
Here are the results:
JUNIOR FINALS

18 and Under Final – fought wholeheartedly by Tom H. (17) and Henry H. (12). The match was full of long rallies and I feel the score does not reflect how close it was at times, but that’s tennis for you π
Tom bt Henry 6-1 6-0
10 and Under Final – best-of-three short sets, fought between Aidan C. (10) and Zach A. (8). The orange ball match was played in such great spirit and it was lovely to see the two young gentlemen enjoying the game so much!
Zach bt Aidan 4-3 4-2
8 and Under Final – the red ball final was a best-of-three tie-breaks (to 7 points) closely-fought affair between two boys who haven’t long been in coaching, Josh B. (7) and Nathaniel J. (8).
Josh bt Nathaniel 7-4 7-5
ADULT FINALS
Men’s Singles
Mac Grabowski bt Aidan Mason 7-5 6-2
