Dawn Errington presented the Dudley Errington Memorial Trophy for Player of the Year 2014 to Tom Baber at the club session on Sunday December 14th. Tom at just 14, has had a fantastic year! He has been in the frame for the last few years but this year he’s made great leaps forward.
In May he won his first points for the Mens C team playing with Garth Vaughan 3-3.
In June, partnering Connor Champ, he got his first 4-0 match win.
In July he won his round robin age group singles event at the club undefeated, and he made the semi-finals of the open singles just losing the semi-final to eventual winner Jana Garnsworthy 7-5.
In August he won a round in his age group at the Torbay Open.
In October he won his first mixed match playing with Sharon Hawkins for the B team in division 3, in straight sets.
During the year Tom has also competed at match play events which have seen his national ranking improve from 10.2 to 9.2.
Tom has been a regular in coaching with Toby throughout the year and has integrated into the adult club sessions and tournaments seamlessly and like all our previous winners is a well-liked and valued member of our club.
